Abstract Artists

Introduction

The Abstract Artists website is designed to provide an opportunity for those people who use the Internet to view paintings and other art work that would be difficult to view otherwise. Whilst the most satisfying way to experience art is to see it in a gallery, this is only possible when the work is being exhibited. Usually artwork  is sold to a private purchaser where the public rarely has access to it. Reproductions may be seen in books but these are expensive, except in the case of the most popular artists whose work justifies a large print run.

Print On demand

Provided the artwork has been photographed to a high standard it is possible to offer fine art print quality for a reasonable sum as the prints can be made and sent to the client on a one off basis. These prints may be made on archive quality paper or even canvas. My intention is to photograph all my work (unless I can't gain access to it) and place it on the web. In my case I don't intend to limit the print run, this means that the prints may be purchased for a reasonable sum. Technical Note

The Print and the Artist

An artists's print is a work of art. It is not a reproduction of a work of art but is itself a work of art. Prints from this website might be digital high quality prints of photographs taken by artists or hand or machine produced prints that might be lithographs or etchings or some other reproductive method.

Web Site Design

I intend to offer space for other abstract artists to show their work for a modest charge this means that the website needs to have various options that tailor the display of the artwork according to the needs of the artist. Whilst I have my own views on the way in which artwork should be displayed I know that other artists may have different views so I intend to design the website so as to provide a number of options for the display of work. The default display is set to a neutral canvas textured background with white margins. I prefer this to white (the usual background in books) as a white background detracts from white in the artwork.

Abstract Art

What is abstract art?  What's better than a Wikipedia article : Abstract Art or use Google's Define term or what artists say about their work (this observation could lead to some extra pages, yet to come).  This article is continued on a new page: What is Abstract Art

If I knew why this painting is not finished, I would be able to finish it; yet I know that it is not finished. Whilst it is totally non-representational I am striving for a landscape quality in that what I intend to create is a product of nature, I am the medium, I suppose, in that when this work is finished I will not be able to touch it with a brush. The painting will have closed like a door or a window. The painting is a totality of perceptions made through a significant period of time, as such it is a product that is beyond my consciousness, a product of the total mind. . . My intention is that I wish to create something that works to stimulate the mind.
